Following the completion of Unigro’s collaboration in a 3-year trial aimed at demonstrating the production of plant based pharmaceuticals; a manuscript detailing the trials has been published in Transgenic Research. The paper written by Professor Julian Ma, Hotung Chair of Molecular Immunology University of London, uses the results achieved in the East Malling Research GroDome. The trials were directed at the optimisation of contained Nicotiana tabacum cultivation for the production of recombinant protein pharmaceuticals. The consortium will be meeting in September to discuss the next stage for this important scientific research, which could have significant impact on the production of pharmaceutical proteins.
